Novedades sobre la relacion entre pajaros y dinosaurios

Hola!

Esta noticia salio salio hace un par de dias y pronto estara el Noti
Ciencia del CAIRP.
Se los adelanto a la lista:

A “missing link” between dinosaurs and birds has been discovered in
Argentina, paleontologists reported Tuesday.
The discovery of the 90 million-year-old dinosaur fossil came to
light even as Hollywood was hyping “The Lost World,” the latest big-budget
foray into dinosaur lore. Scientists said the find in Argentina
strengthened the case for arguing that birds were essentially “living
dinosaurs.”

Paleontologist Fernando Novas of the Argentine Museum of Natural
History announced the discovery of the new species, Unenlagia comahuensis,
at a news conference in Washington. The discovery is documented in the May
22 issue of Nature magazine.
The fossil was found in the Patagonia region of Argentina, Novas
said. More than 20 bone fragments were collected, including pelvic bones,
ribs, a shoulder blade, an upper arm and a thigh bone.
The dinosaur, which stood about 4 feet high at the hip and
measured about 7 1/2 feet long, ate meat and traveled on land rather than
flying. But researchers noted similarities between the dinosaur’s
relatively small forelimbs and the wings of birds.
Novas said the fossil record showed the clearest link yet between
dinosaurs and birds.
"Because birds are dinosaurian descendants, they are dinosaurs.
Birds are living dinosaurs," Novas said.
Paul Olsen, a paleontologist at Columbia University, said bird
species are thought to have developed from smaller species of dinosaurs
rather than such giants as Tyrannosaurus rex.
“Small dinosaurs are rare and they’re hard to find, and this is a
very good fossil of one of these missing links between birds and
dinosaurs,” Olsen told MSNBC.
