Continuara

If my memory serves, he was accused as a result of comments made in a
taped interview with a (British, I think) journalist. I listened to the
portion in question online from CNBC, so unless the tape was doctored,
or he has become senile, there was some basis for the charges.

In the portion I listened to, he was addressing his use of young male
prostitutes. His comment was that he had been doing so for years, but
that the boys were doing this out of choice and were not forced or taken
advantage of by him. He indicated a preference for boys in early
puberty. Apparently, the charges were dropped on the basis of his world
reputation, the fact that the boys were prostitutes already and the
apparent tolerance of such things in Sri Lanka.

I don't think my personal moral code is necessarily the yardstick to
measure all others by, but I do feel a little squeamish with the idea
that some of the money I pay for his books is going to this. Somehow it
is different when you know....

Back to other, happier topics, I hope.
