Pues sí, va de eso. La gente del SETI Institute http://www.seti-inst.edu/ está haciendo unos salvapantallas que se dedicarán a procesar los datos recibidos por los radiotelescopios. Estos salvapantallas se podrán descargar de la página web del proyecto http://www.setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ (hay página en castellano) y los paquetes de datos (creo recordar que de 250kb) se mandarán por correo electrónico a los que estén inscritos en el proyecto (puedes inscribirte en la página anterior). Cuando el ordenador no esté en uso, el salvapantallas se activará e irá procesando los datos, que se enviarán ya procesados de nuevo a la sede del proyecto. En principio parece ser que el proyecto empezará en Abril, pero ya tenía que haber empezado este verano... muy sobrados de presupuesto no andan, no. :-( Ah! se me olvidaba. Dear SETI en home volunteer: Thank you for signing up for SETI en home. We're on schedule to distribute the SETI en home screensaver program in April 1999, and we'll send you another email when that happens. On October 30 we began recording data at the world's largest radio telescope, located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Preliminary versions of the screensaver program and the data distribution system have been completed. On November 20 we will begin testing the system with a group of 100 users analyzing real data (sorry - no more volunteers needed). Over the next few months we will complete the testing, making sure the system will handle large numbers of users.
