        Microsoft bitten by bug

     DEUTSCHE PRESSE-AGENTUR in Seattle

The Y2K computer problem has struck at the heart
of the hi-tech industry and caused mild
embarrassment to the world's leading software
     maker.

On Tuesday, industry giant Microsoft was forced to
edit out on-line references to three of its
self-published books that were announced with a
     scheduled release of January 1900.

The announcement on the Web site of Microsoft
Press displayed the classic symptoms of having been
bitten by the Y2K bug, which affects software that
only uses two digits to display the year, so that
January 1, 2000, could be interpreted as January 1,
     1900.

The mix-up was particularly frustrating for
Microsoft considering that the concerned training
kits are targeted at computer professionals.

The three titles are also published as accompanying
literature to Microsoft's flagship software, the 2000
version of the Windows operating system.

For those who want to ensure that problems such as
the one displayed on the Microsoft Press Web site do
not occur, the company offers help.

A title called "Debugging Applications" will be
released in January. January 2000, that is.

Pues eso. Felices fiestas y feliz año 1900,
