[escepticos] Carta a "Scientifi American"

Al hilo de los de las lentejas imantadas, y dadas las "respuestas" -o 
falta de ellas- que han -hemos- recibido los colisteros que se han 
molestado en escribir, parece que lo mejor a estas alturas sería 
escribir a Scientific American directamente, a ver si a ellos les hacen 
más caso.

Así que he preparado una carta modelo, en inglés, que os copio para que 
aportéis sugerencias, correcciones, y demás. Es breve, adrede. Si estáis 
de acuerdo, una vez acordemos una versión definitiva, los que queráis 
podéis añadir vuestras firmas (nombre, profesión molona, y demás) al pie 
de la carta.

La idea es la siguiente:

Modificaciones a la carta y recogida de firmas en la corrala hasta el 
lunes que viene (29 de Septiembre).

Ese lunes, a las 9 de la mañana hora de aquí (las 6 de la tarde en 
España), enviaré la carta por correo electrónico a los editores de SA 
(editors en sciam.com), con copia a las dos direcciones que tenemos de IyC 
(valderas en investigacionyciencia.es y precisa en investigacionyciencia.es).

In the September 2003 issue of the Spanish edition of Scientific 
American ("Investigación y Ciencia") there is an article titled 
"Estimulación de la germinación y el crecimiento por exposición a campos 
magnéticos", signed by Elvira Martínez, Mª Victoria Carbonell and 
Mercedes Flórez, which happens to be the most flagrant show of 
pseudoscience we have seen in a long time. It was a sad shock finding it 
in your otherwise excellent publication.

The article uses as a premise for their experiment that water can be 
magnetized; such a statement is completely against everything we know 
about water, magnetism, and the Laws of Physics.

Scientific American, and its sister, "Investigación y Ciencia", are 
wonderful tools to approach science to a non-specialized public, and 
it's therefore even more distressing to find out that the Spanish 
edition standards for accepting articles have fallen so much below the 
bare minimum required to offer an honest, thorough view of the research 
panorama in Spain and around the world.

We have contacted the Spanish editors, but have not received a 
satisfactory answer. We turn to you in the hope that such a slip will be 
avoided in the future, allowing us to keep on enjoying your excellent 
magazine, as we have been doing for so many years.
